Texas Forever
I have had the great privellage of working down in Texas for 6 weeks and I have had quite the time whilst here. Sitting in the Texan heat during the worst time of the Minnesota winter may be swaying me, but I can definately see myself staying here. I could be a forever cowboy and a forever TEXAN! In Minnesota it is currently -20 degrees while I am getting a tan in 75 degree heat. During my time here I found that Texas is not at all what I thought it was..... there are hills and greenery. There aren't cowboys every where and cows are not free roaming. Granted I am in Austin, TX which stands by it's uniqueness (when compared to the rest of Texas). I am enjoying the hip side of Texas but I also appreciate the old Texas feel. You will still hear some sothern accents, see cowboy hats, and loads of boots, there are tacos and barbuque on every corner, rodeos frequently, and I could get used to the sothern hospitality. Austin itself is one of the most fit cities, and it shows. It has a booming young population and a great downtown scene, to support them. Additionally, Texas does not have a property tax.... so my dream of owning some land may be realized here!
While in Texas I have done a great deal. My Texas bucket list is slowly diminishing.
I have had plenty of new experiences- muai thai class, took down the American and Texas flag at school, I have eaten cow tongue now, drank strained wine, went 2-stepping, saw live bats flowing out from under a bridge, walked upon a rally at the capitol, and so on.....
I went to a rodeo and pet a cow!
I went to a farmer's market and for the first time ever.... fell in love with a dog!
I went line dancing (and will be going again next Friday)
I went on a road trip to San Antonio for the rodeo
I bought an Austin hat
I have seen lots of line music in Austin, but I have not been to a "concert" yet
I will be going to a Texas Longhorns Baseball Game this weekend.
I have not worked a ranch yet or gone camping in Texas.
Additionally, with my time here I have been cooking lots, consistently going to yoga classes, and I have been dabbling in martial arts/boxing classes.
Texas Wish List:
Buy a cowboy hat
