The Current
Be tenacious in your life pursuits! Find out what you are passionate about and go for it. I have been listening to a number of podcasts and in hearing the lives that some of these men/women are living is blowing me away. All of these people set out to accomplish all of their hopes and dreams every day. They are actively moving forward every day. Maximum productivity. They are training, researching, preparing, experiencing, doing. (Do some side research on the Laval Story and look into the philosophy of Making Your Bed).
These stories are making me wonder if anyone would be blown away in hearing my story. If a similar reaction could be deriven from my life experiences. I have done some incredible things but I have not even scraped the surface, when viewed through, the success that these individuals have accumulated. I know that I am young, but I feel as though my time is now.... in fact, my time was yesterday. I need to get a move on.
Laval St. Germain is a man that has climbed nearly every notable mountain peak on the planet (including Everest) and he rowed a boat from Canada to France...... He seems something that few people are capable of conquering and he sets out to do it himself. Often making history for his fleets. Extreme athlete, world explorer, mountaineer, etc. His key is preparation and vision. Once he sets his mind to something he sees it through. There is no quit in him. Every day he prepares. His mental approach to his fleets and the novelty behind his adventures inspires me. Can you imagine all the things that he will have seen in his life? The places he will go? The things that he can hang his hat on?
I also listened to a podcast about the Kaizen Method which speaks to the process of creating standing habits by creating simple conquests. Give yourself minuscule tasks, steps, goals towards a major achievement and you will have far more success. This promotes attention to detail and the little things, fosters a focus on the process, and success promotes more success. It creates habits and motivates. Shooting for your end goal right off the back and getting tunnel vision often call for crash and burn mentalities. Account for all of the little steps along the way. A step forward is a step forward no matter how small. Slow and steady wins the race.
I read a book called Make Your Bed by Admiral William H. McRaven talks about the lessons learned through a life in the military. The takeaways in this book are the blueprint to success. Be disciplined, never quit, persevere at all costs, rise to the occasion, take failure on as a means of growth, and dare to be great. One of my favorite quotes from the book is "Who Dares Wins".... this is such a great lesson. You miss one hundred percent of the shots that you do not take and those willing to give it there all with the potential of failing are better than those living their life in the passenger seat. Making it in life and reaching your full potential calls for you to take some risks. Life calls for risks, it is not going to move out of the way for you. You will be battle tested by life, those willing to take the blows and get back up will be stronger and more equipped for the next blow. They will have fought the good fight rather than those bending to the will of life. Another great lesson is to start your day with tasks completed. Make your bed. Start your day with success and discipline to guide the rest of your day. It will motivate you into being present.... into being a man of action.
I have so much on my mind currently and there are so many directions and paths that I want to take. In my moments of doubt or my desire to fall into complacency I refer back to some of these resources. Be driven to be your best self, to take life on, continue to move forward. No matter what, persevere!
